Norberg Consulting was called in to help with the U of M Student Legal Services Department when their current office manager was on medical leave and it was determined she would not be returning. The director of the department felt there was some discord in the office, was not sure if their staffing requirements were being met and wanted an overall assessment of what they were currently doing and how it could be improved upon.

Norberg Consulting interviewed all current employees in the department to ask about work load, what kind of support they received or wanted and what they thought were the critical issues that needed to be resolved.

After reviewing all the collected data, a report with several recommendations was given to the director of the department. Staffing requirements were outlined, suggestions for improved procedural efficiencies were made and recommendations for improved communication between the staff and attorneys were also made. After, the department felt a cohesiveness that had been lacking for a long time and were hopeful about the opportunity to turn their department around. They were so impressed with the work Norberg Consulting had done for them, that they hired them for phase two of the plan, which implements recommendations laid out in phase one. Work on phase two commenced early February 2008.
